Bloomberg Says Interpretation of Constitution Will ‘Have to Change’ After Boston Bombing.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday the country’s interpretation of the Constitution will “have to change” to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks.

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But we live in a complex world where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

Mr. Bloomberg, who has come under fire for the N.Y.P.D.’s monitoring of Muslim communities and other aggressive tactics, said the rest of the country needs to learn from the attacks.

“Look, we live in a very dangerous world. We know there are people who want to take away our freedoms. New Yorkers probably know that as much if not more than anybody else after the terrible tragedy of 9/11,” he said.

“We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to,” he said.

The mayor pointed to the gun debate and noted the courts have allowed for increasingly stringent regulations in response to ever-more powerful weapons.

“Clearly the  Supreme Court has recognized that you have to have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and what it applies to and reasonable gun laws … Here we’re going to to have to live with reasonable levels of security,” he said, pointing to the use of magnetometers to catch weapons in city schools.  MORE

Shocking footage has emerged from Friday’s lockdown in Boston, where police, federal agents, national guard troops and SWAT teams enforced door to door searches of everyone’s home within twenty blocks as the entire city was placed under orders to stay off the streets. 



The video, shot by a resident from their own house across the street, shows police barking orders at men and women as they order them at gunpoint to identify themselves, put their hands on their heads, and get out of their own home. They are then ordered to run down the street to be further frisked by police as scores of armed militarized cops look on. 

The group Political Action for Peace wants to ban Pledge of Allegiance across country

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – It’s a revered American tradition but one political group out of Boston says the Pledge of Allegiance is similar to oaths said during Nazi Germany.

They want it banned from all school districts across the country. But not all parents agree with the proposed action. “If we want our country to crash, this is a great way to do it,” says mom Cassa Fox. “I wouldn’t allow my son to opt out of it in any way,” says mother Nicole Adamson.

Here in District 51, spokesperson Christy McGee says reciting the Pledge of Allegiance gives students an opportunity to re-enforce American principles like a democratic heritage and freedom. “We would like all students in all classrooms to have the opportunity to say the pledge once a day,” says McGee. Though, any student can opt out.

 The group Political Action for Peace wants it banned all together. Group co-founder Marty Rosenthal says opting out isn’t enough protection for a child who might be bullied as a result.

He says the Pledge of Allegiance is reminiscent of “some horrific totalitarian regimes”.

Something District 51 parent Amber Slaughter says isn’t true.

“(The Pledge of Allegiance) It’s about patriotism and pride in our country and taking that away will do our children a severe injustice,” says Slaughter.

Other parents agree.

“I would want my child to stand and say what he believes in,” says Fox.

“If you don’t agree with it, remove yourself from the situation. It’s not who’s right and who’s wrong. It’s simply respect,” says Adamson.

Folks who would like to see the pledge be done with say concepts like liberties and religion are too hot-button to be in a public setting, especially schools where they say, the pledge has no educational value.

“The pledge of allegiance was divinely inspired and it does a whole lot more besides just mention God,” explains Slaughter.

Rosenthal calls the pledge a loyalty oath similar to oaths said during Nazi Germany and McCarthyism. He says kids who have opted out from saying the pledge have been bullied in his district by other students and maimed anti-American.more
