CUBA: Castro v. the Church Monday, Aug. 22, 1960 Fidel Castro last week lashed out at the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in Cuba as “scribes and Pharisees,” “peons of the American embassy” and “Franco Fascists.” Castro’s rage was aroused by a pastoral letter* condemning “the growing advance of Communism in our country.” He shouted that whoever “condemns the revolution betrays Christ” and is “capable of crucifying Christ again.”
Thousands of Cubans have died in front of Castro’s infamous firing squad. There was no discrimination, as far as the firing squad was concerned. Young and old, black and white, rich and poor were sent to ‘el paredón’ (the wall).
Many of those who helped Castro gain power, like Comandantes Ernesto Sori Marin and William Morgan, an American, were among the thousands who were shot.

The above photo was taken in March of 1964, five years after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution that ousted the U. S.-backed Batista dictatorship. It shows Celia Sanchez hard at work on the couch and Fidel Castro relaxing barefooted in his rocking chair. Cuban insiders consider this a very appropriate photograph because Celia was the primary decision-maker in Cuba from January of 1959 till her death from cancer on January 11, 1980, at age fifty-nine. Fidel, as the recognized upfront leader of Cuba, always fully supported whatever decisions Celia rendered, even if he initially disagreed with her. Irate over terrorist acts from Florida that continually targeted her beloved peasants, Celia, without consulting Fidel, sent a cable to Moscow requesting nuclear missiles on Cuban soil.
Pathfinder Press recently released a new edition of Ernesto Che Guevara’s Episodes of the Cuban Revolutionary War – 1956-58. “Pages from Cuba’s Revolutionary History,” a weekly series aimed at promoting this book, features articles by and about combatants of the July 26 Movement and Rebel Army, which led the revolutionary war that overthrew the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista and opened the socialist revolution in the Americas.
This week’s installment is about Camilo Cienfuegos, one of the principal Rebel Army commanders. Before he joined the Cuban revolutionary forces, Cienfuegos was a worker and political activist in the United States. Cienfuegos’s first stay in the United States ended with his deportation by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). The second ended when he went to Mexico to volunteer for the Granma expedition being organized by the July 26 Movement, led by Fidel Castro, to begin the revolutionary armed struggle against the Batista regime.
Even before the triumph of the Revolution, Castro and his gang were prone to murder those who disagreed with them.
In the photo below, taken while still in the Sierra Maestra mountains, Fidel Castro’s brother, Raul, is seen getting ready to shoot a young rebel soldier who disobeyed orders.
HAVANA TIMES — A group of Cuban intellectuals of various political perspectives presented a collection of essays titled “For a Consensus for Democracy,” which was the prelude to a broader debate organized by the Catholic magazine Espacio Laical.
The authors met with about a hundred persons at the Father Felix Varela Cultural Center to discuss the institutionalization and democratization of the island, each from their own political slant but in an atmosphere of mutual respect and seriousness.
Among the participants were Catholic, liberal and Marxists panelists – even a priest who is a descendant of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, the first rebel who in the eighteenth century stood up for the independence of the island against Spanish rule.
Paradoxically, those most notably absent from this academic consensus building exercise for democracy was the Cuban government (which excludes itself from these debates) and dissidents (who were only allowed participation from the audience).
The end of taboos?
The discussions included topics that until recently were taboo in Cuba, such as the multiparty system, democracy, citizens’ participation in decision making, the unconstitutionality of some governmental actions, and political change.
Despite coming from varying ideological currents, there was consensus among the panelists concerning the need to go beyond clichés; instead they appealed for a form of democracy not limited to the “representative democracy” of capitalism or the “participatory democracy” of socialism.

A growing number of Israelis and foreign Jewish groups are expressing concern over the anti-Semitic flavor of some of the “Occupy Wall St.” economic protests in the US.
From the 13th century expulsion of Englands Jews to the 19th century Russian pogroms to the Nazi Holocaust, sour economic conditions have historically formed the backdrop of rising anti-Semitism.
Last week, we reported on a lone protestor at the Wall Street sit-in who insisted that America’s economic woes could all be traced back to “the Jews.”
Since then that message has been picked up by others at “Occupy Wall St.” demontrations around the country.

In Los Angeles, California, protestor Patricia McAllister, who identified herself as an employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District (we can only hope she is not an educator), had this to say:
“I think that the Zionist Jews, who are running these big banks and our Federal Reserve, which is not run by the federal government… they need to be run out of this country.”
Back in New York, another protestor insisted that “a small ethnic group constitutes almost all of the hedge fund managers and bankers on Wall St. They are all Jewish. There is a conspiracy in this country where Jews control the media, finances… They have pooled their money together in order to take control of America.”
He was kind enough to warn Russia to avoid similarly being destroyed by what in America has become a “conspiracy everyone is afraid to talk about.”
This is an exciting time! Thousands of mainly young people have been occupying Wall Street for three weeks already, and the “Occupy Movement” has spread to more than 200 other cities. On Oct. 6 the actions spread to our nation’s capital.

Southern California Party leader Arturo Cambron will share how the CPUSA and Young Communist League (YCL) are working in “Occupy Los Angeles.”
This movement, also known as the “99% movement,” is being hailed across the country. Movements and organizations are reaching out in solidarity. The AFL-CIO is opening union halls and offering other material assistance. Ordinary people are donating food, money and materials.
In many areas, the “Occupy Movement” is linking up with the National American Wants to Work Week of Actions, Oct. 10-16.
No doubt the “Arab Spring” demonstrations and those that exploded in Wisconsin, Ohio and elsewhere have inspired it. But underlying it all is the economic crisis, the massive unemployment and growing realization that nothing is getting better, and in fact we may be slipping into a “double dip” crisis. The crushing student debt and the feeling of being locked out of society with no future compound this.
The emergency Committee for Israel, a Jewish-run Republican organization, released a video highlighting these and other anti-Semitic incidents at the “Occupy wall St.” events, and urging President Barack Obama to take a firm stand against such hateful rhetoric.
Israel’s Yediot Ahronot newspaper called the anti-Semitic outbursts “hard to watch,” and an Israeli commenter said, “It’s just like pre-World War II Nazi Germany. You think blood libels can’t happen in America?”More
Many racialists are unsure about, and even against, these Occupy Wall Street protests all around the country. It has been pointed out to me that many protesters are non-white and/or “communists.” Well my answer to that is: “WHO CARES?!” They are against the same evil, corrupted, degenerate capitalist elitists that WE are against! Instead of screaming, “6 million more!” The pro-white movementites should be JOINING this Occupy movement and supporting it!
Seriously people, just WHO is our enemy? The unemployed left-wing 25-year-old holding up a sign, OR the judeo-capitalist banksters who swindled the American taxpayers out of A TRILLION dollars in the “bailout” scam AND continue to oppress the White Working Class?!? At the same time, Marxist-Leftists are attempting to use the current economic collapse as a means and way to bring about their doctrine of Cultural and Economic Marxism and all its glory of multiculturalism. Under their utopianism, our civil society will be destroyed, race mixing will be mandatory, Christianity will be repressed and the free market based economic system that fuels our economic system and that is also a basis for a National Socialist economic system will be abolished in favor of a the Communist textbook redistribution of wealth.
None other than Rahm Emanuel, the Jew Israeli dual citizen Mayor of Chicago and Barrack Obama’s former Chief of Staff famously stated, “always take advantage of crisis”. This is part and parcel of the Marxists play book.

Stocks Slump Worldwide As Communist China Will Let Currency Appreciate Gradually
Stock indexes in the United States, Asia and Europe fell sharply as traders worried that the turmoil in Japan, the world’s third-largest economy, could slow down growth worldwide. Bond prices rallied and yields fell as investors turned to safe havens like the dollar and French, German and American bonds.
For investors, the questions were urgent but largely unanswerable: How significantly would production fall in Japan? Which companies were most at risk? How would a loss of nuclear power in Japan affect energy markets worldwide?
The benchmark index in Tokyo fell more than 11 percent, its lowest close in nearly two years and its largest two-day drop since 1987. In the United States, indexes fell more than 2 percent in the morning but recovered somewhat in the afternoon. Stocks were helped by a statement by the Federal Reserve saying the economy was on “firmer footing” and that the labor market was “improving gradually.”more
Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, answering prescreened questions at an annual news conference, said Monday that Chinafaced daunting challenges of taming inflation and developing a more consumer-based economy, and that the government would allow the nation’s currency to appreciate but at a cautious pace in order to protect Chinese jobs and businesses.
Mr. Wen said China’s grass-roots elections should be expanded to higher levels of government, but stressed that change must occur “step by step,” under the control of the Communist Party.
On the delicate topic of the revolts and revolutions that have besieged authoritarian Arab governments in recent months, he said China’s record of speedy economic growth and fast-rising living standards made analogies with those countries “not right.”
Mr. Wen spoke as the National People’s Congress, in a vote whose results were preordained, approved the country’s new five-year development plan. Its strategy promises a surge in government spending on domestic security and social programs like medical insurance, but offers little in the way of legal, political or banking reform. One principal goal, the government has said, is to lessen economic dependence on factory exports and build up innovation and domestic consumption.
