Measles cases at 15 year high in U.S.

-There have been 220 cases of measles so far this year in the United States, more than triple the usual 60 to 70 cases per year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Europe had more than 26,000 cases reported from January through July of this year, with nine deaths, according to the World Health Organization. So far, no deaths have been reported in the United States this year.

The CDC found of the 220 reported U.S. cases 87% of the people infected didn’t get the vaccine, while the other 13% were too young to get it. Most of these cases were people who traveled overseas to Western Europe, Africa or Asia. Even though 91.5% of the U.S. population is immunized, those who are not, are putting themselves and others at risk, says Patsy Stinchfield Director of the Infection Disease Department at Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota.

wo-doses of the measles vaccine is estimated to be 98-99% effective at preventing the disease and provide lifelong immunity. For those who are unvaccinated and exposed to measles, they can be expected to get measles at a rate on the order of 90% or higher, according to the CDC.

Some adults are not vaccinated by choice or because they don’t realize they haven’t been vaccinated. When it comes to teens and children, 72% aren’t immunized because of their parents religious beliefs or personal reasons, according to the CDC.

What parents don’t realize is that “measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children,” says Stinchfield and she adds that measles can be misinterpreted as simply a bad case of the flu. Children can suffer the consequences of severe measles infection for years before they die from the disease. Brain inflammation and neurological problems are far more likely if a child gets measles disease. Encephalitis or inflammation of the brain can lead to permanent neurological problems.

To vaccinate against measles is far safer than declining or delaying MMR vaccine, says Stinchfield . One in 1,000 cases of measles disease causes encephalitis in children and one in one million doses of measles, mumps rubella vaccine causes brain inflammation, according to the CDC.

The CDC recommends that if babies between 6 and 12 months of age are traveling to areas of the world with known measles outbreaks, they should go ahead and get the first dose of the vaccine about a month before travel is set to begin. This will allow the baby’s body enough time to build up protective antibodies. The CDC says if an infant gets the measles vaccine before the recommended age of 1, they will still need 2 more doses of the vaccine.

On March 3, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Samantar v. Yousuf et al., an appeal of a case involving Mohamed Ali Samantar, who served as minister of defense and prime minister of Somalia during the bloody dictatorship of Siad Barre.

He called the manifesto “destructive,” and jailed 45 of those who had signed it, but about a month later he ordered their release. He agreed to multi-party parliamentary elections to be scheduled in February but later canceled them and the civil war took its course.MORE

Americans who were raped, tortured or imprisoned by the Barre regime, and the Supreme Court is reviewing the legality of the lawsuit. As is customary in such high-profile cases, many groups with concerns over the ramifications of the court’s decision have filed “amicus” or “friend-of-the-court” briefs, which urge the Supreme Court to rule one way or the other. Samantar’s defenders are few in number, but, surprisingly, they include four of the largest Jewish communal organizations in America: the American Jewish Congress (AJCongress), the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), the Orthodox Union (OU), and Agudath Israel, as well as the government of Saudi Arabia. None of these parties were required by the court to offer their opinion — amicus briefs are submitted voluntarily — and the Jewish groups’ decision to participate in such an unholy alliance speaks volumes about their distorted priorities.

These groups are not alone in their interest in the case — the Somali victims’ supporters include a range of human rights organizations, legal scholars, retired U.S. military officials, as well as the United States government — and some background information is necessary to understand why so many different organizations have chosen to get involved.

The challenge that went before the Supreme Court is whether Samantar, who currently resides in Fairfax, Va., can be sued in a U.S. civil court under the Torture Victims Protection Act, which permits lawsuits against government officials who commit torture, murder and the like.  Samantar’s lawyers maintain that he is protected by the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which grants legal immunity to foreign governments. The question before the court is whether that immunity extends to individual officials of a foreign government, especially officials who are no longer in power.

To be clear about the scope of the case: the Supreme Court will not be deciding whether Samantar authorized, or was complicit in, war crimes.  Indeed, that is hardly open to question; there is incontrovertible evidence that, during the 1980s, the Somali government committed widespread human rights abuses, including torture, massacres, forced disappearance, and extrajudicial imprisonment. Whether or not the Supreme Court decides that Samantar, as a former Somali government official, is immune from being sued in U.S. courts, there is little doubt that he has blood on his hands.

Why then would four major Jewish communal organizations choose to enter the fray and defend so despicable a figure? Their answer is that they are concerned about how the broader legal aspects of the case relate to Israel’s welfare. As the jointly filed ZOA/OU/Agudath Israel amicus brief argues, allowing Samantar to be sued in a U.S. court would “encourage the institution of many unfounded lawsuits in the United States courts against present and former government officials of the State of Israel.”

Parents go to concert, leave baby in trunk

Now they want their baby back

So what’s a parent to do when they really want to go to a pop concert but can’t find a sitter? For one German couple, the solution was to leave the baby in the trunk of their car in the parking lot.

The couple went to a seven hour music festival in Stuttgart, more than 400 miles from their home, and before going into the concert they placed their 8-month-old son, Anton, in the trunk, according to German newspaper Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag.

Fortunately for Anton, other concertgoers heard the infant crying and alerted security. When Anton’s parents could not be found, police forced their way into vehicle where they found the baby overheated. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and placed into protective custody.

Now Anton’s 18-year-old mother wants her baby back, saying she’s learned from the experience. She also defended her actions, saying, “We had left the windows [of the car] open a gap… Anton had enough light and air, and the car was in the shade.”

She added that she had informed family aid of their road trip to the concert, and claims that the office said Anton was required to stay with them.

Anton’s father said that the original plan had been for the couple to take turns going into the concert, but at the last minute decided to go to the concert together. His mother says they had planned on taking breaks to check on their baby, but the concert’s no re-entry policy kept that from happening.more

If you've been watching or reading local/world news how they are talking about the horrific find/recall  in the Kids Toy 'Aqua Dot's' and how it contains a chemical that turns into the date-rape drug GHB it's horrible.  

Want to know something even worse America/The World this isn't something new they just found out about.  They have known about it since 2007.  Why is this Toy still containg GHB being sold or even carried in the United States still?

I guess the US Government is looking at all ways of getting back some of the $$$$ already spent any way they can!

CPSC to levy $1.3M civil penalty for Aqua Dots toy beads that sickened children

WASHINGTON — A toy company that sold popular arts-and-crafts beads that sickened about a dozen children has agreed to pay the federal government a $1.3 million fine.

It would mark the third largest toy-related penalty issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to a government official who agreed to speak only on the condition of anonymity ahead of the expected announcement Thursday morning.

The commission alleged that Spin Master knowingly failed to report a defect and hazard associated with Aqua Dots. It also accused the company of knowingly importing and selling a banned hazardous substance.

 The toys consisted of tiny colored beads that stick together when sprayed with water, forming fun designs and shapes. About 4 million of the kits were recalled in November 2007.

Spin Master has agreed to the settlement, the official said, but denies allegations that it knowingly violated the law.

U.S. safety officials have recalled about 4.2 million Chinese-made Aqua Dots bead toys that contain a chemical that has caused some children to vomit and become comatose after swallowing them.

Scientists have found the popular toy's coating contains a chemical that, once metabolized, converts into the toxic "date rape" drug GHB, or gamma-hydroxy butyrate, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesman Scott Wolfson told CNN.

"GHB is this drug that in low doses actually causes euphoria," said Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent. "In higher doses, it can cause people to go into a coma. It can cause seizures. It can cause something known as hypotonia, where all your muscles just become very flaccid.

Popular Children’s Toy Coated With Chemical That Converts To Date Rape Drug

Kids love Aqua Dots, a popular craft kit which tops the Christmas list of many children.  In Australia, Aqua Dots are sold under the brand name of Bindeez and, in fact, Australia named Bindeez as the country’s “Toy of the Year.”  But with just a few weeks before Christmas, you will unfortunately have to tell your kids that this toy product has to be moved from their “Christmas list” and put on the “dangerous toys” list.   That is because the beads (which look like candy) in Aqua Dots and Bindeez have been found to have a coating which contains a toxic chemical that turns to GHB … better known as the date rape drug … thus resulting in the most recent recall of Chinese made toys. 

CHINA'S safety watchdog has confirmed the popular Bindeez toy beads contain a substance that can turn into the "date-rape" drug GHB after ingested.

The Wangqi Product Factory in Shenzhen, a city just over the border from Hong Kong, made the toys that are coated with the industrial chemical 1,4-butanediol, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine said yesterday.

When ingested, the chemical metabolises into gamma hydroxy butyrate, also known as fantasy, which can cause breathing problems, loss of consciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.   But that chemical generally sells for three or four times the price of the toxic compound found on the tainted toys – 1,4-butanediol. The Bindeez were supposed to have been coated with non-toxic 1,5-pentanediol, a chemical commonly used in computer printer ink.

 Following Dr. Carpenter’s research, his hospital sent out a warning to poison control centers around Australia.  The next day, a mother living near the hospital brought her 10-year-old daughter to the hospital after finding her daughter first motionless and then vomiting the beads.  Late last Wednesday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered a recall stating that two children had fallen seriously ill after eating Aqua Dots.  Since then, two children in the U.S. and another in Australia have fallen ill from the beads.Dr. Kevin Carpenter, discovered traces of GHB in the boy’s urine.  After Dr. Carpenter learned that the boy had swallowed Bindeez beads and then vomited them before going into a coma, he began a four-week investigation on the toy product.  In his research, he found that the beads contained an industrial chemical which breaks down in the body and becomes GHB. 

  

GHB is a highly dangerous drug.  The U.S. places GHB in the same category as heroin.   When children swallow the beads which contain GHB, they can become comatose, have seizures, and develop respiratory depression, as did both children mentioned above.  If you have these products in your home, you should immediately take them away from your children and contact the distributor of the product, Spin Master, which is offering a free replacement of beads (hopefully safe ones) or a toy of equal value.

'Rogue websites' bill introduced in US House

US  lawmakers introduced a bill on Wednesday that would give US  authorities more tools to crack down on websites accused of piracy of movies, television shows  and music and the sale of counterfeit goods. 

The Stop Online Piracy Act has received bipartisan support in the House of Representatives  and is the House version of a bill introduced in the Senate  in May known as the Theft of Intellectual Property Act or Protect IP Act.

The legislation has received the backing of Hollywood,  the music industry,  theBusiness Software Alliance,  the National Association of Manufacturers,  theUS  Chamber of Commerce and other groups.

But it has come under fire from digital rights and free speech organizations for allegedly paving the way for US  law enforcement  to unilaterally shut down websites, including foreign sites, without due process.

House Judiciary Committee  chairman Lamar Smith,  a Republican from Texas, said the bill "helps stop the flow of revenue to rogue websites and ensures that the profits from American innovations go to American innovators.

"Rogue websites that steal and sell American innovations have operated with impunity," Smith said in a statement.

"The online thieves who run these foreign websites are out of the reach of US law enforcement agencies and profit from selling pirated goods without any legal consequences," he said.

The Washington-based Center for Democracy and Technology  (CDT ) said the House bill "raises serious red flags.
"It includes the most controversial parts of the Senate's  Protect IP Act, but radically expands the scope," the CDT  said in a statement. "Any website that features user-generated content or that enables cloud-based data storage could end up in its crosshairs.
"Internet Service Providers  would face new and open-ended obligations to monitor and police user behavior," the CDT  said. "Payment processors and ad networks would be required to cut off business with any website that rightsholders allege hasn't done enough to police infringement.
"The bill represents a serious threat to online innovation and to legitimate online communications tools," it said.
The Obama administration has come in for some criticism for shutting down dozens of "rogue websites" over the past year as part of a crackdown known as "Operation in Our Sites."
US  authorities in November, for example, shut down 82 websites selling mostly Chinese-made counterfeit goods,  including golf clubs,  Walt Disney movies, handbags and other items.

Clearly Anti-White Discrimination As Baby Hitler Parents Lose Custody of All Three of Their Kids, Even Though No Signs Of Abuse, It Was All In The Names

Parents who named two of their children “Adolf Hitler” and “Aryan Nation” lost custody of all three of their children Thursday, even though they say a New Jersey appeals court found no evidence of abuse, ruling the children have been taken away without cause, MyFoxPhilly reports.

“Actually, the judge and DYFS told us that there was no evidence of abuse and that it was the names. They were taken over the children’s names,” Heath Campbell told NBC 10 Tuesday.

However, the appeals court ruled last year that sufficient evidence of abuse or neglect existed because of domestic violence in the home, and removed the children from their Philipsburg, N.J.home.

In protest, Heath and Deborah Campbell  picketed with three other people outside of child services offices in Flemington, N.J., Tuesday, saying that the state has no right to keep their children away from them now that the court allegedly ruled that the kids were taken away without cause, NBC 10 reports.

The case originated after the local ShopRite refused to decorate a birthday cake for the son, Adolf Hitler Campbell, and reported the incident. Adolf and siblings JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie have been in foster care since then.

In January 2009, the Campbells told MyFoxPhilly that Adolf Hitler Campbell is just like any other 3-year-old boy.

“It’s not like he’s growing up to be a killer or nothing like that,” Deborah Campbell said.

“I went to just to get a cake… it was a circus of racism,” Heath Campbell added.

At the time both parents acknowledge the hate behind their children’s names. But say that was not their intention.

“This is America, they say it’s free, you have the right to name your child whatever you want to name your child, no matter what,” Heath Campbell said.Read more:
