Under SB 5, Ohio will be first state required to base teacher pay on performance

COLUMBUS Ohio’s new law to limit collective bargaining for public workers could make it the first state with a mandatory system to pay teachers based on their performance. The measure passed by the Republican-led Legislature and signed by GOP Gov. John Kasich bans strikes by public workers and replaces automatic pay increases with merit raises or performance pay. Ohio would be the first state in the U.S. to replace automatic raises with a performance-based pay system for teachers statewide, said Kathy Christie, chief of staff for the Denver-based Education Commission of the States, a nonpartisan group that researches education policy.
“That is the type of component that really, really resonates with the public,“ she told the newspaper. ”If you are not pulling your weight, if you are not getting performance, if you are not tenacious and reall…

Sunday, June 27, 2004

Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations. Ryan’s campaign began to crumble on Monday following the release of embarrassing records from his divorce. In the records, his ex-wife, Boston Public actress Jeri Ryan, said her former husband took her to kinky sex clubs in Paris, New York and New Orleans.

Trump bets his Tax Returns On It and Snowy Smith [FLC] has proof

- Potential presidential candidate Donald Trump, at or near the top of some recent polls of Republican contenders, said he might release his tax returns when President Barack Obama produces a birth certificate. Trump made the comment in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, parts of which were aired and transcripts of which were released on Tuesday. The interview was conducted on Monday. "Maybe I'm going to do the tax returns when Obama does his birth certificate ... I'd love to give my tax returns. I may tie my tax returns into Obama's birth certificate," Trump said. A real estate tycoon and reality TV star with a colorful past that includes three marriages, the initial talk from Trump about possibly running for the Republican nomination was seen by some as little more than a publicity stunt. But in a field where several potential candidates carry baggage of their own or are relative unknowns, Trump's high profile and outspoken comments -- on ma…
