Too many babies being born too soon
Half a million U.S. babies are born premature each year, part of a worldwide problem outlined in a new report 

Babies born in wealthier countries generally stayed in the womb longer. 

But the rate of prematurity in the United States remains high, at more than 12 percent of live births. That’s about 5 percentage points higher than in Russia, China and Canada and similar to rates in Kenya, Thailand and India. 

Some of the 500,000 early births in the United States each year can be explained by the increase in the number of women who opt to have children later in life or undergo fertility treatments — problems of a well-educated, health-care-rich country. Planned Caesarean sections also contribute to the numbers here, as do high rates of obesity. 

But much of it also can be blamed on the same obstacles faced by pregnant women in third-world nations: no access to family planning and no care or inadequate care before and during pregnancy. 

The authors of “Born Too Soon ,” a new report on premature births, stress that too many babies are born early worldwide and that prematurity rates are increasing in most places. 

Disabilities in kids are increasingly nonphysical

Growing numbers of American families say they’re raising a child who has a disability, and the most-prevalent conditions are less and less likely to be physical disorders. 

A report released yesterday by Princeton University and the Brookings Institution found that the top five chronic childhood conditions that limit typical activities are some type of developmental, behavioral or mental problem. 

For much of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, the most-common cause had been respiratory disease. Now, asthma and breathing problems are No. 6, and deafness and orthopedic impairments don’t even make the list of top conditions. 

“There’s been a fourfold increase in reported disabilities over the last 50 years,” Kahn said. “ To some extent, we think it’s absolutely real. But, in addition, we also believe there have been different (diagnostic criteria) and more reporting of these conditions.” 

He and the report’s co-editor, Janet Currie of Princeton, said the nation lacks consistently collected statistics on childhood disability over time. That makes it “difficult to resolve the controversy over how much of the increase in disability reflects changes in incidence or changes in definition and diagnosis,” they wrote. 

According to the report, more than 1 in 5 parents reporting a child with a disability in 2009 cited ADHD — attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder — as an underlying condition. 

An additional 19 percent cited other mental, emotional or behavioral problems. Today, ADHD is nearly three times more likely than asthma to contribute to childhood disability, the report said. 

And autism affects about 6 percent of all special-education students, up from 2 percent over the past decade.

Patricia Krentcil,Tanning Mom, Lashes Out At Critics. Patricia "Tanning Mom" Krentcil -- the New Jersey woman on trial for allegedly bringing her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning bed -- has sparked outrage across the country, leading at least one famous face to speak out about her frighteningly bronzed look. Krentcil spoke out about her critics. Krentcil's troubles began when a school nurse questioned Anna about her 
sunburn and the girl allegedly said, "I go tanning with mommy." Police 
investigated and charged the golden baked mom. On Wednesday, she pleaded 
not guilty. Her husband defended Krentcil, saying that their daughter got a 
sunburn from playing outdoors.

I'm not trying to make fun of this situation but truthfully this is funny , and someone needs to take away that poor little red headed little girl who would be fair complected and burn up like a piece of Bacon or something.  

YOUTUBE PULLS PLUG ON CHRISTIAN VIDEOS

Where once one of the more popular God and Country YouTube Channels – with more than 23,000 subscribers, 530-plus videos and 21 million views – could be accessed, now a barren page is found, save for a message. The message reads: “This account has been terminated due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines and/or claims of copyright infringement.”

For Pastor Carl Gallups, one of the people behind the popular PPSimmons YouTube Ministry, seeing a channel disabled he has worked tirelessly to build and promote since 2009 was devastating.

“It was as if you have a thriving business and you came to work one day and the building was burnt down and everything you had created was gone. Instantly,” he told WND.

It was only three weeks ago that PPSimmons came to the attention of YouTube again, with the posting of George Zimmerman’s 911 call.

“The media wasn’t doing their job in covering the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman affair,” said Gallups, who before becoming a minister spent 10 years in law enforcement. “Truth has since vindicated Zimmerman after the initial media onslaught.”

The recording was in the headlines because NBC famously quote Zimmerman saying, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

But NBC had edited out critical parts of the conversation. In reality, Zimmerman said, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”

The operator then asked: “OK, and this guy – is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman said, “He looks black.”

Gallups explained that the posting was the complete four-minute version of the call.

“That same video is all over YouTube, but they flagged the video,” he said. “We appealed the decision, and in a few days YouTube responded and admitted that they were wrong, and the video was restored, and so was our Good Standing status.”

The temporary victory was short-lived, as Gallups tried to log on to the PPSimmons account a few days later only to find the “terminated” notice.

“Though YouTube restored the Zimmerman 911 call video, we received notice that the channel was terminated because another video was flagged, and we had received too many warnings to continue to allow our channel to operate,” he said.

“It was a simple video, in my voice, urging our subscribers to pray for YouTube users who were asking for our prayers and because of spiritual battles that they were experiencing in their life,” said Gallups.

It calls for prayer for those who are caught in the “demonic grip” of homosexuality, masturbation and pot smoking, “and they don’t even know it.”

It explains drug and sexual addictions are “not the way of a true believer.”

“We are not here to help people feel good about their sins,” the video explains.

Gallups said one can see videos on YouTube that attack Christianity, demonize and bully proponents of traditional marriage and call Muslims to prayer, “but to make a video calling for Christians to pray is ostensibly grounds for having your channel terminated.”  MORE from WND

In a riveting interview on TruNews Radio, Wednesday, private investigator Doug Hagmann said high-level, reliable sources told him the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is preparing for “massive civil war” in America.

“Folks, we’re getting ready for one massive economic collapse,” Hagmann told TruNews host Rick Wiles.

The blast could be heard clearly inside Memorial Stadium, where 84,501 football fans had gathered last October to watch the University of Oklahoma play host to Kansas State. Reverberations beyond the OU campus, meanwhile, have been shockingly minimal. 

Just what took place within earshot of so many Sooners on that mild night in Norman remains a mystery to most. Junior mechanical engineering major Joel Hinrichs III, perhaps the only person who could say for sure, is dead of his own device — a three-pound bomb believed to be made out of triacetone triperoxide, a volatile explosive known as “Mother of Satan.” 

Hinrichs blew himself up on a park bench within 200 yards of the stadium, in an area known as the South Oval. The FBI, which investigated the incident, issued a bulletin the next day advising facility managers elsewhere to step up their security awareness at upcoming games. But whether or not Hinrichs meant for others to die with him is not entirely clear. “I believe he went for a large open space where he wouldn’t harm anyone but himself,” Hinrichs’ father, Joel Hinrichs Jr., told The Oklahoma Daily student newspaper two days after the bombing. “He was aware of the fact that he was going to make an indelible impression on 85,000 football fans. He might have said, ‘That’s you, this is me, good-bye.’ But I’m just speculating. He’s not here to say if I’m right or not.” 

Despite a dearth of national media coverage regarding the incident, there has been plenty of speculation in the seven months since. For reasons that should be obvious, the university was quick to judge the matter a suicide — the act of a lonely, frequently depressed student. However, the Northeast Intelligence Network, a web site founded by private investigator Douglas Hagmann (homelandsecurityus.com), reported in March that a local law enforcement official involved in the Hinrichs bombing investigation is “disgusted that the truth is being withheld from the public.” This official, described by Hagmann as “confidential but wellvetted,” went on to state, “This was a premeditated act of terrorism that involved more than Hinrichs and was supposed to kill and hurt a lot of people.”

When used in medicine it is typically used to treat severe pain, such as that resulting from a heart attack. Another says, “She has her daddy’s eyes…and her mommy’s heroin addiction.” Then: “Get birth control, get ca$h.” These are posters that show up nationwide in homeless shelters and methadone clinics, in AA and NA meeting rooms and near needle exchange programs, distributed by volunteers for Project Prevention. Formerly called Children Requiring a Caring Kommunity (CRACK), the controversial nonprofit pays drug addicts $300 to either undergo sterilization or use a form of long-term, “no responsibility needed” birth control.

“What makes a woman’s right to procreate more important than the right of a child to have a normal life?” Project Prevention founder Barbara Harris told Time magazine in 2010. The question is entirely rhetorical: her self-professed mission in life is to zero out the number of births to parents who abuse illegal drugs, particularly crack cocaine. “Even if these babies are fortunate enough not to have mental or physical disabilities, they’re placed in the foster-care system and moved from home to home,” she says.

Critics of many stripes have piled on. They argue that Harris’ campaign deprives women who are addicted, poor and vulnerable of reproductive choice even as it feeds their drug habit.

Some opponents say that, since the financial incentive is tantamount to giving addicts money to buy drugs, Project Prevention should be illegal.

Others say that if addicted women are viewed as not responsible enough to have a baby, then they should also be viewed as not responsible enough to give informed consent to having a serious medical procedure in exchange for drug money. more from salon
