Signs in Detroit Neighborhood Warn of Crackhead Infestation

"I want people to know that we need to wake up, stand up and get busy," said Rudell Solomon,a neighborhood activist.

That's exactly what an east side Detroit neighborhood is doing.  They're stepping up and taking back their neighborhood.  Together, they turned a filthy, vacant lot into a park.  They mow lawns and board up houses all to make their community a better place to live, but there are a few major obstacles standing in their way.

"We've got crackheads around here on the bridge.  You hear gunshots every night," said Dequindre Jenkins.

"We go through so much, crackheads and bullets flying," said another woman.
"They had a shootout over here about three days ago and some cracksheads (were) involved.  They had set up a crack house, and we kind of like ran them out and we put the signs up," Solomon said.
A sign posted along Eight Mile and I-75 reads, "Warning!  This area is infested by crackheads.  Secure your belongings and pray for your life.  Your legislators won't protect you."  It's a shocking statement, but neighbors say that sign is far from extreme.

"Reality is reality," Solomon told us.

It's now getting national attention after a snapshot was posted on the Media Take Out blog. Some say the signs create just another opportunity for the world to laugh at Detroit, and as you can imagine, that's making more than a few Detroiters mad. Well, that's kind of the point.
"I'm just aggravating people hoping to make them upset, make them mad," said Solomon.
Mad enough to act.More at Source
