SC mother faces charges after nurse finds maggots in baby’s diaper and drugs in baby’s system.

Police said they were first called about a sick 10-month-old child at the Shamrock Apartments on E. Hampton Ave on Saturday.
According to the incident report, the child had an ear infection but the mother, 20-year-old Michelle Butler, had not finished giving the baby its prescribed medicine because she had spilled it. The witness told police that the baby was warm and scratching at his ears.
Police said another witness gave the baby some children’s Tylenol before he was eventually taken to the hospital. When officers arrived at Butler’s apartment, EMS was taking the child to the hospital.
The report said when nurses at the hospital took off the baby’s diaper, five maggots fell from inside the diaper.
Blood and urine tests were taken and the child’s urine tested positive for cannabinoid, according to police. The baby was put in the care of the Department of Social Services.more
