Greece’s Golden Dawn opens office in New York City

New York - Greece’s ultra-nationalist party Golden Dawn (Chrysi Avgi) has inaugurated a new office in New York City, to reach out to the Greek diaspora. A branch of the political party is already operational in Melbourne, Australia.
According to Ekathimerini two polls this weekend have placed Golden Dawn as the third political party in Greece, on nine percent of the vote. Their rise in popularity, which Digital Journal reported as standing at 22 percent, means that the ultra-nationalist party has now overtaken PASOK in public opinion.
Golden Dawn is now reaching out to the Greek diaspora, opening a branch of the political party in New York City. The party’s New York website says:
“The Golden Dawn is the only political party in Greece that unapologetically stands for the sovereignty, security, and dignity of the Greek people. The party intends to reverse decades of unlimited third world immigration which has brought crime, unemployment, disease and possibly terrorism to the once peaceful Greek cities.
We stand with the Greek people who have been driven to poverty and despair by the imposition of the genocidal IMF and European Union austerity policies that are decimating the population and turning Greece into a slave state.
Our goals are to promote and support the Golden Dawn’s nationalist ideals and vision for Greece among the Greek diaspora. We must resist and overcome the genocidal multi- culturalist, and anti-Hellenic agenda of the New World Order.”

Golden Dawn Wants Dictator Metaxas’ Statue in Kefalonia

The neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party has visited the island of Kefalonia and asked Mayor Alexandros Parisis to help them restore and preserve the statue of the late Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas which had been dumped in the countryside.
According to inkefalonia.gr, when they first found the statue of Metaxas, members of the Golden Dawn tried to pull it out of an aqueduct but feared it could be damaged and they didn’t have the means to transport and resurrect it.

Party leaders asked the city council permit them restore the statue “of our late Ioannis Metaxas which has been abandoned out in the countryside without any protection from rain and other bad weather conditions. We will fund the restoration by ourselves until the moment you decide to replace it in the island’s central square, where it used to be. To sum up, we ask you to correct a major historic mistake that has been made (in regard to the removal of the statue”.

Metaxas was born in Ithaca but raised on Kefalonia. On Aug. 4, 1936 he established a military dictatorship in Greece with the support of King George II, claiming that it was necessary to thwart a Communist takeover during a period of political instability.

Popularity Of Greek Neo-Nazi Party Continues Surging

There is a reason why we called the graph of youth unemployment in Europe ‘the scariest chart’ as quite simply, it is the leading indicator for what most call ‘social unrest’ – but some would call ‘uprising’. In somewhat stunning news today, not only do a majority (54%) of Greeks no longer trust any political party, but the popularity of the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn has risen dramatically since May. According to Ekathimerini, the popularity of Golden Dawn’s leader Nikos Mihalolioakos has risen ten points since May to an incredible 22%. More than 1 in 5 Greeks now support the neo-nazi party as the general disillusionment with mainstream political parties – who are seen as lying to get votes – grows stronger. 85% believe that the new measures planned by the government to take affect them personally or another member of their family and 68% are against the terms of the EU’s bailout.

 Golden Dawn in Melbourne?

A SPLINTER group in the Melbourne Greek community has been condemned for launching a local branch of the extreme right-wing Golden Dawn party, which has been accused in Greece of sparking xenophobic violence by espousing neo-Nazi and anti-immigration policies.
The mission to use the cover of the internet to create a nationalistic political force among one of the world’s largest Greek communities outside Athens has been savaged by Australia’s Jewish and Greek communities.
The Golden Dawn Melbourne Facebook page has attracted more than 2500 followers – with many friends from overseas – and the proponents are planning to organise regular meetings to discuss nationalistic policies and widen appeal for a political party that has been condemned worldwide.
The Facebook page lists the group’s favourite quote as: “Northern Greece, Cyprus, Macedonia, the battle continues as in Australia blood and honour, Golden Dawn.”
The Australian backers of the ultra-nationalist party do not appear to have put their names to the project and did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.
The emergence of the party’s Australian branch comes after a small group of protesters tried to disrupt Greek National Day celebrations in Melbourne in March, wearing clothes promoting Golden Dawn. Proponents are claiming to be behind the group’s first chapter outside Greece
