Feinstein: All vets are mentally ill and government should prevent them from owning firearms; as CIA Director Sworn In On the “first draft” of the Constitution.

During the Senate Judiciary meeting today to markup a potpourri of bills designed to deny the American people their rights under the Second Amendment and disarm them, Senator Dianne Feinstein opposed an amendment to her so-called assault weapons ban legislation that would allow veterans to continue buying firearms the bill would outlaw.
Feinstein basically said all veterans have PTSD and should have their Second Amendment stripped. In response to the amendment, she said the following:
…this adds an exemption of retired military. As I understand our bill, no issue has arose in this regard during the 10 years the expired ban was effect… and what we did in the other bill was exempt possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States… that included active military. The problem with expanding this is that you know with the advent of PTSD, which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War, it’s not clear how the seller or transferrer of a firearm covered by this bill would verify that an individual was a member, or a veteran, and that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this. So you know I would be happy to sit down with you again and see if we could work something out but I think we have to — if you’re going to do this, find a way that veterans who are incapacitated for one reason or another mentally don’t have access to this kind of weapon.  >>>MORE<<<

John Brennan was sworn in today as the CIA Director by Vice President Joe Biden in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. However, during his swearing in ceremony, he did not place his hand on a Bible and used the “first draft” of the Constitution.

First Draft of the Constitution (August 6)

“We the people of the States of New Hampshire, Massachussetts, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations, Connecticut, New-York, New-Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North-Carolina, South-Carolina, and Georgia, do ordain, declare, and establish the following Constitution for the Government of Ourselves and our Posterity.

What does it mean that it’s a “first draft” of the Constitution? It means it doesn’t include the First, Fourth, Fifth, or Sixth Amendments or any of the other Amendments now included in our Constitution, as EmptyWheel points out.
He writes:
“That means, when Brennan vowed to protect and defend the Constitution, he was swearing on one that did not include the First, Fourth, Fifth, or Sixth Amendments – or any of the other Amendments now included in our Constitution. The Bill of Rights did not become part of our Constitution until 1791, 4 years after the Constitution that Brennan took his oath on.”

Later, Yahoo’s Olivier Knox provided an explanation from the White House when he wrote of the swearing in:
“Hours after CIA Director John Brennan took the oath of office – behind closed doors, far away from the press, perhaps befitting his status as America’s top spy – the White House took pains to emphasize the symbolism of the ceremony.
“‘There’s one piece of this that I wanted to note for you,’ spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters gathered for their daily briefing. “Director Brennan was sworn in with his hand on an original draft of the Constitution that had George Washington’s personal handwriting and annotations on it, dating from 1787.”
“Earnest said Brennan had asked for a document from the National Archives that would demonstrate the U.S. is a nation of laws.  >>>more<<<
