Biometric National ID Card could be mandated on all American workers; more like everyone.

The Myth of Airport Biometrics

Robert McMillan Email 08.09.02
If you’re an international traveler looking to shave a few minutes off your trip, San Francisco International Airport has just the machine for you.
In the airport’s new international terminal, the INS has installed a number of ATM-like machines designed to take precise measurements of your hand, confirm your identity and whisk you through U.S. customs without so much as a “What is the purpose of your visit?” from the folks at Immigration.
I have seen those machines at several airports, or ones where you insert your passport  or ticket like an ATM
It’s the kind of biometric identification system that Congress had in mind when it passed the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act of 2002. This legislation calls for the U.S. Attorney General and Secretary of State to implement a system of biometric identification for each and every alien who enters the United States after Oct. 26, 2004.
There’s just one problem with the SFO machines. They’re not turned on.
The director of San Jose State University’s Biometric Test Center, James Wayman, says that’s because, although the biometric scanners actually worked fine, they cost more than they were worth.

Army Tracking Plan: Drones That Never Forget a Face

BY NOAH SHACHTMAN  09.28.11
Perhaps the idea of spy drones already makes your nervous. Maybe you’re uncomfortable with the notion of an unblinking, robotic eye in the sky that can watch your every move. If so, you may want to click away now. Because if the Army has its way, drones won’t just be able to look at what you do. They’ll be able to recognize your face — and track you, based on how you look. If the military machines assemble enough information, they might just be able to peer into your heart.
The Pentagon has tried all sort of tricks to keep tabs on its foes as they move around: tiny transmitters, lingering scents, even “human thermal fingerprints.” The military calls the effort “Tagging, Tracking, and Locating,” or “TTL.” And, as the strategy in places like Afghanistan has shifted from rebuilding societies totaking out individual insurgents, TTL has become increasingly central to the American effort. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been devoted to it.
The current technologies have their limits, however. Transmitters can be discovered, and discarded. Scents eventually waft away. Even the tagged can get lost in a crowd.
But there are some things that can’t be so easily discarded. Like the shape of your face. Or the feelings you keep inside. That’s why the Army just handed out a half-dozen contracts to firms to find faces from above, track targets, and even spot “adversarial intent.”

Control – this is what fuels many Congressmen and women. Recently, two U.S. senators met with President Obama, vouching for a biometric national ID card that would force workers to submit to a fingerprint, hand, or iris scan. Any worker failing to comply with this biometric trackingmandate, would be terminated from their job.
The program would be titled the “Believe System,” an acronym for Biometric Enrollment, Locally stored Information and ElectronicVerification of Employment.

Federal Military Solutions

Accurate and expedient identification of individuals is a top priority for the defense and intelligence communities to distinguish friends from foes at home and overseas. Biometric systems must be robust and fully adaptable for use in the field, whether you are providing base and checkpoint security, targeting and tracking persons of interest, managing detainees or conducting a population census. Recruiting standards also mandate a secure, comprehensive, interoperable system to manage the vetting and credentialing of federal military personnel.

The ID card would contain a digital encryption key that would be required to match work authorization databases. The micro-processing chip on the card would store the biometric identifier. The worker would be required to carry this card and the employer would be forced to scan it.
Who’s behind this controlling proposal?
The two sponsors of the legislation, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) say the new identification cards will “ensure that illegal workers cannot get jobs, dramatically decreasing illegal immigration.”
Their proposal would include additional border security, more temporary workers, and a form of amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the United States.  >>>MORE<<<
